FYI: the journal for the information professional
FYI is the quarterly print publication from the School Library Association of Victoria.
It aims to provide informative articles on a range of topics that are discussed and set by its Editorial Committee annually. The topics are chosen for their relevance to current issues which concern teacher-librarians, both secondary and primary in public and private schools. The topics range from technology to literature; from teaching students the information skills they will need in the twenty-first century to developing in students the skills and desire to become lifelong readers.
The style and tone of the articles is often practical, coming from people in the field. Practising teacher-librarians are often the contributors, writing about what they are doing in their own libraries.
The editor is responsible for searching out potential contributors, often with help from the members of the Editorial Committee and the Committee of Management.
Articles are usually between 800-1500 words.
FYI is also a forum for collegiality, for example, with tributes to retiring members or focus pieces on a branch or individual. A new feature which will ask for a brief reader comment on a particular topic, aims to encourage a broader range of SLAV members to become contributors.
FYI is also where members connect with the Executive Officer and the President via their regular reports and where the news of the latest and upcoming professional opportunities are to be found.
