Understanding Catalogue Records

What is the purpose of a catalogue record? Where do all the bits in a catalogue record come from, what is their purpose and what do they mean? How does my library system use the records? How can I ensure that the records are useful for my students and staff?

This workshop will cover: data elements in a record, subject headings, classification and call numbers, and authority records and is most suited to library staff who have a responsibility for managing library cataloguing records who would like to understand more about the nature of the data being imported.

Please bring your SCIS username & password, if you have it. Also, if you have online access to your library system’s cataloguing module, that would be useful.
